Built around 1835, this home began as a simple, one-story corner Creole cottage, constructed during a time when New Orleans was rebuilding with brick after the devastating fires of 1788 and 1794 changed the look of the French Quarter forever. For nearly 50 years, the ground floor served as a neighborhood corner store. It was the kind of place where locals picked up daily provisions, traded news, and caught up on a little neighborhood gossip. Then, in 1889, the old cottage got a fashionable Victorian makeover, with a second story and balcony added overlooking Bourbon Street. What started as a modest Creole storefront became a multi-story residence, leaving behind a building that tells its history almost like a timeline, part early Creole New Orleans, part Victorian reinvention, and nearly two centuries of life in the Lower French Quarter.
