Built in 1860, the home at 1519 Euterpe Street has been part of the Lower Garden District for more than 160 years. It was constructed during a time of tremendous growth in New Orleans, as former plantation land was being transformed into new neighborhoods filled with homes for the city’s growing middle class. As streetcar lines made it easier to live farther from the old French Quarter, areas like the Lower Garden District quickly became an important part of the expanding city. With its traditional craftsmanship and simple residential character, 1519 Euterpe reflects the kind of everyday New Orleans home that helped shape the neighborhood. Today, it remains part of a historic streetscape that tells the larger story of a city steadily growing beyond its original boundaries.
