Built around 1880, 729 Dumaine Street sits in the heart of the French Quarter along one of New Orleans’ oldest streets. By the time this home was built, the Quarter had already been evolving for well over a century, and newer Victorian influences were beginning to appear alongside the older Creole cottages and townhouses that defined the neighborhood. Modest in size but full of character, 729 Dumaine is a wonderful example of how New Orleans architecture was never frozen in a single period or style. Instead, homes like this became another layer in the ever-changing story of the Vieux Carré, where nearly every block carries pieces of the city’s past.
