Dating back to around 1800, 935 Saint Ann Street comes from a fascinating time in the French Quarter’s history. The house was built not long after the great fires of 1788 and 1794 reshaped much of the old city, as Spanish colonial New Orleans was beginning its transition into the American era. Over the years, this part of the Quarter became an important center of Creole and African American life, filled with families, traditions, music, religion, and stories that helped shape the culture of the city. Just a block away stood the home where the legendary Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau lived with her family for much of the 19th century. More than two centuries later, 935 Saint Ann remains part of that wonderfully layered neighborhood, where even a small house and the streets surrounding it can tell a much bigger New Orleans story.
